Best Cricket Helmet - Editor's Choice

MASURI E-LINE TITANIUM HELMET

FEATURES

  • Strong single shell protection
  • Surpasses cricket safety standards
  • Inner soft cell foam
  • Sizes: S/M/L
  • Colours: Black/Navy/Green/Maroon

The Masuri E-Line Titanium Cricket Helmet is our top pick. We think this top of the range helmet is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to visibility, comfort and most importantly protection.

The stand out feature of this helmet is the patented eye-line grille technology, which is designed to give a batsman greater facial safety and maximise the range of visibility. The grille is made from titanium, which we found to be extremely strong but also slightly lighter than steel. Abiding by British cricketing standards, the grille is non-adjustable and permanently screwed in place.

The helmet has a traditional style peak which is strong and sturdy. The distance between the peak and the grille is small enough to ensure that quick edges have no chance of penetrating the gap.

We universally agreed that the helmet is excellently ventilated — fitted with ventilation holes at the top and front of the helmet, allowing the head to breath during long periods out on the square.

Like every good cricket helmet, it is fitted with a comfortable chin strap which is accompanied by a clip in buckle. The inside of the helmet is fitted with ‘Pro-Foams’ – a combination of graded foams that are designed to absorb any impact. As well as protection, the foams offers a secure and comfortable fit. The inside padding is fitted with Velcro, which can be replaced with additional sized padding provided in the box.

The helmet is finished to the highest degree, down to every last stitch. The signature Masuri logo is stitched into the back of the helmet. In addition to this, the helmet is available in a variety of colours – black, blue, green and maroon which is great if you are after a particular colour to match your club colours.

Masuri helmets are the most commonly used in professional cricket and this helmet makes it easy to understand why. The helmet oozes class and has everything a seasoned player needs. Take your confidence to the next level with the Masuri E-Line Titanium Cricket Helmet.

Best Value For Money Cricket Helmet

Gunn and Moore Neon Geo Cricket Helmet

FEATURES

  • Dual density EVA foam
  • Steel GEO grille
  • Lightweight construction
  • Internal engineered channels to maximise airflow
  • Active sweat wicking and ventilation

We think fantastic value for money lies with the Gunn and Moore Neon Geo Cricket Helmet. GM aren’t typically known for their helmets, however it looks like they are stepping up their game with this exciting 2021 prospect.

When initially getting our hands on this helmet, we were blown away by the sheer quality of the materials used in the making of it. The cloth used to cover the helmet feels premium and the stitching is neat and tidy. Regarding finish alone, you could arguably put it in the same league as the high-end Masuri’s.

The helmet is fitted with a solid steel grille. The grille is a geodesic design, which GM claim is mathematically proven to be the optimal style for impact resistance. The distance between the peak and the grill is small enough to ensure there is no ball penetration, reducing any chance of the ball impacting the face. We had no issues when it came to visibility and unanimously agreed that the helmet gave a clear line of sight in all frontal directions. As with most helmets these days, the grille is non-adjustable to ensure the helmet conforms with British safety standards.

Sitting on the top of the helmet are two vents which keep the head cool during long periods at the crease. We like how the vents are directly exposed to the air and not covered in cloth like other competitors. There is also an additional vent added towards the back of the helmet, again maximising the air flow.

The interior is coated with an EVA foam lining, which optimises comfort and absorbs the impact of any hits. When wearing the helmet, we found it to be extremely comfortable. The helmet is not the lightest by any means but this is expected with the steel grille design – we felt it was of an average weight for a mid-range cricket helmet.

Sitting around the £50 mark, we can not think of a helmet that offers greater value for money. This helmet is packed with fantastic technology and we love how GM are making it available to those of us who are on a budget. We promise that you will not be disappointed with this helmet.

Best Budget Cricket Helmet

MASURI C-LINE STEEL CRICKET HELMET

FEATURES

  • Strong single shell protection
  • Soft cell foam
  • Sizes: S/M/L
  • Colours: Navy

If you are new to cricket or find yourself on a tight budget, we have selected the Masuri C-Line Steel as an entry-level option that we think offers great value for money. This helmet is specifically designed for club cricket, so we definitely think this is a great match for any club player.

When testing this helmet, we found it to be incredibly lightweight. This is due to the single shell protection system, which creates a light upper. The helmet is fitted with a steel grille. Like all Masuri models the grille is non-adjustable, ensuring that batsman play with the helmet exactly how Masuri designed. A reinforced plastic peak sits at the front of the helmet, diminishing the chances of any facial impacts.

We found the helmet to be extremely comfortable. The helmet is fitted with removable swoppa bands on the inside, which can be replaced to create a snug fit. We also think having the option to remove these bands will speed up the drying process after play.

Built-in vents allow excellent ventilation when wearing this helmet. Unlike the higher-end Masuri designs there is no cloth covering the helmet outer, so there is nothing between the vents and the fresh air. We found that this kept our head exceptionally cool on sunny afternoons.

To summarise, this helmet has everything you need if you are a club cricketer. Available for under £50, we think you are getting an extremely high level of protection that will truly stand the test of time.

Best Lightweight Cricket Helmet

SHREY MASTERCLASS AIR 2.0 HELMET

FEATURES

  • Advanced Air Flow System
  • Improved rear retention system
  • Improved fixed grille
  • Increased facial and side protection
  • Removable sweatband
  • Complimentary neck guard

The Shrey Masterclass Air 2.0 Titanium Cricket Helmet is currently the lightest helmet on the market that certifies with the latest British safety standards. The reason this helmet is the go to for any professional is purely because of the weight alone. We felt this helmet was considerably lighter than any other helmet we tested.

Another feature we liked was the strong titanium grille attached to the helmet. We felt the grille has fantastic coverage and extended nicely to cover additional areas such as the jaw. The space between the grille and the helmet peak ensures that no stray balls can squeeze through to the head. We also had no issues when is came to visibility.

The back of the helmet is designed in a way that tapers down, which slightly increases the area that the neck is protected by. This is a unique feature which we haven’t seen added to any other helmets.

We really liked the comfortable padding on the inside of the helmet. With the stock padding that was fitted in the helmet, we felt that the fit was slightly snug. Shrey provide additional padding which can tighten or loosen the fit.

Future improvements we hope to see are the ventilation and the overall finish. By adding more ventilation vents, a batsman could stay slightly cooler. The overall helmet could be finished to a higher standard.

All though this helmet sits at the top end of the market for price, we still think the helmet offers excellent value for money. Not only are there heavier titanium helmets on the market that are more expensive, Shrey include an added neck guard and helmet bag which other manufacturers don’t include. If you are after the lightest helmet in the game, this helmet is the one to add to your kit bag.

Best Adjustable Cricket Helmet

GRAY-NICOLLS ATOMIC 360 CRICKET HELMET

FEATURES

  • Factory fitted 360 faceguard
  • Robust ABS outer shell
  • Size adjustment dial
  • Superior ventilation system

The Atomic has been an extremely popular mid-range cricket helmet over the years. For 2020, Gray-Nicholls have added a “360” spin to their popular helmet which protects to head from all angles. This maybe a great option to consider if you’re after an adjustable helmet with a mid-range price tag.

Gray-Nicolls have maintained the brilliant technology of the original Atomic design, but now with an added 360 grille. The grille extends to the back of the helmet which offers additional protection to the back of the neck. Other manufacturers have developed clip-in stem guards to cover this area, making this helmet unique to the rest of the market. The grilles are non-adjustable ensuring the gap between the grille and peak never changes.

The helmet has an extremely robust outer shell, reducing the impact of any stray balls. The helmet is also fitted with a superior ventilation system will work hard to keep you cool in all conditions.

Manufacturers are slowly moving to non-adjustable helmets, as the science implies that this creates the safest fit. This helmet is one of only helmets to be produced with an adjustment dial in 2020. We found that the dial made it easy to adjust the size and contributed to a snug fit when set to the correct setting.

If you’re after a unique helmet that won’t leave a huge hole in your wallet, then this is a great helmet to consider. We recommend this helmet for the beginner to intermediate cricketer.
