The 5 Best Kookaburra Cricket Bats

Table of Contents

Kookaburra have an excellent range of cricket bats available for the 2020 season. They have developed 5 separate designs, each of which cater for different playing styles and levels of play. Each range has a variety of different bats crafted in different grades of willow, which implies a wide range of price points. It’s fair to say that Kookaburra have created something to suit everyone this year.

We have reviewed every Kookaburra offering and selected 5 cricket bats that satisfy different batting needs and offer excellent value for money. Our overall favourite was the Kookaburra Concept 20 Pro, which has style and an impressive specification to match.

1 - Best Overall Kookaburra Cricket Bat

Kookaburra Concept 20 Pro Cricket Bat

In our opinion, the best Kookaburra cricket bat for the 2020 season is the Concept 20 cricket bat. This stylish cricket bat is perhaps a look into the future of Kookaburra offerings with updated branding and a new shape. This pro edition has everything a batsman sitting at the top of the order needs.

The bat has an aggressive profile. The spine is high and the scalloping maximises the edges. The blade is slightly shorter than other Kookaburra ranges – half an inch shorter and half an inch longer in the handle. The bat weighs between the 2 lbs 8 oz and 2 lbs 10 mark.

We think the bat feels fantastic in the hand, nicely cushioned by the unique see-through silicon grip. The counter balance worked into the top of the handle adds to the beautiful pick up of the bat. The bat is finished with a square tapered toe, which gives a comfortable feel when setting up to face a delivery.

2 - Best Budget Kookaburra Cricket Bat

Kookaburra Shadow 5.1 Cricket Bat

We think an excellent Kookaburra cricket bat for those on a budget, is the Kookaburra Shadow 5.1. This range of bat is making its debut for the 2020 season. This bat has a powerful and aggressive profile which is aimed at players looking to dominate the middle by scoring runs quickly.

The bat profile is very similar to the famous Kahuna range. It has big edges and a high spine, however overall it is a slightly thinner bat. The spine tapers off towards the toe which distributes the weight well. The bat is fairly light, weighing around the 2 lbs 8 oz mark.

Grade 5 English willow is used to make this bat, however we definitely think it could pass for a higher grade. The bat has a mid-middle which is great for all round stroke play. The bat is finished with a square tapered toe, which gives the impression there is a lot of wood behind each shot.

A unique feature the Shadow range has is the counter balance which sits at the top of the handle. This primarily adds extra weight above the handle, which enhances the pick-up. The pick-up is light and feels less than its dead weight.

3 - Best Kookaburra Cricket Bat For Power Hitters

Kookaburra Big Kahuna Cricket Bat

The Kahuna range, first developed in 2001, has been used by a number of high profile cricket players over the years. From cricketing legends such as Ricky Ponting and AB de Villiers to most recently  Josh Butler. The Kahuna is designed for dynamic players that look to score runs around the wicket.

The Kahuna has an impressive profile with big edges, a spine running through the bat down to the toe and a sweet spot in a mid position on the face. The bat weighs 2lbs8 to 2lbs 10. The Kahuna range is fitted with a vertex grip.

The great thing about the Kahuna range is that Kookaburra have developed two unique bats. In particular the Big Kahuna, which has an absolutely huge profile. This bat has massive edges, weighing between 2lbs12 and 3lbs. This bat is designed for a strong aggressive player that’s looking to hit the boundary frequently.

4 - Best Kookaburra Cricket Bat For Beginners

Kookaburra Pace 5.2 Cricket Bat

A fantastic cricket bat for any beginner or junior cricketer looking for their first ever short handle bat is the Kookaburra Pace 5.2. Not only does the bat look great with the striking blue graphics, the bat has a fantastic specification for learning the game.

The Pace 5.2 is a lightweight bat weighing between the 2 lbs 6 oz and 2lbs 8 oz mark. The 5.2 has thinner edges than other bats in other Kookaburra ranges but still manages to maintain a high spine and full profile. The spine tapers off to the toe creating a feather light pick up, making it perfect for any young batsman.

The bat is great for a ‘next generation’ player, that will be looking to play all strokes off the front and back foot. The Pace range is fitted with wave grips, that we think offers excellent grip.

5 - Best Lightweight Kookaburra Cricket Bat

Kookaburra Ghost Lite Cricket Bat

The Ghost is usually a favourite with cricketers due to its impressive specification and sleek white graphics. Within the Ghost range is the Ghost Lite, which is currently one of the lightest adult cricket bats in the market. We think this bat is excellent for perfecting your batting technique or as a backup for your best bat.

The Ghost range is aimed at more traditional stroke players. The profile is very similar to the Kahuna with big edges and a high spine which runs through to the toe. There is a subtle difference, which is the lower middle. This is ideal for players who love playing off the front foot.

The Ghost Lite has an inch taken off the blade and added to the handle. The handle has a counter balance sitting at the top of the handle which creates an impressively light pick-up. This bat weighs between 2lb 6oz and 2lb 8oz.
